6th GRADE SCHOOL HEALTH EDUCATION

HEALTH EDUCATION COURSE LINE AND EXPECTATIONS

  • PUBERTY/GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
  • ALCOHOL
  • NICOTINE
  • BULLYING
  • NUTRITION

EXPECTATIONS

  • Student’s will be expected to take daily notes in class, which will be considered part of a participation grade
  • Students will be graded on daily notes, classwork, participation and assessments
  • All assessments will be open note
  • As your Health teacher, I will provide you with some informational handouts and worksheets, but you will also be required to take notes.
  • Due to the nature of our material and discussions the following behaviors are EXPECTED: *Any and all vocabulary will be technical usage only (no slang) *Class discussion and references to topics will be for educational purposes only and not personal entertainment *Stories that allow students to connect to a subject must be generic and nondescript (I will remind students to refrain from “my aunt…..” Participation
  • To be a successful Health Education student you will be respectful, be responsible, and be safe. You will contribute to class discussions or ask/answer questions to engage in the class. It’s important to come to class prepared with all handouts necessary for the current unit and supplies for taking notes.
  •  Note taking during review of handouts will provide the best opportunity for understanding and learning. Health Education is a one term class. The term moves quickly as does our curriculum. Once a unit is completed we move on to a new topic. Students need to keep up with handouts and work. Handouts will be available on Google Classroom as necessary. Students are expected to immediately join google classroom.
  • Participation can be as simple as asking a question or providing a response or opinion to a topic of discussion. End of unit assessments are typically open note and therefore, retakes are not necessary.
  • Powerschool will be updated throughout the term.
  • Missed Class:  Students who miss class should be checking google classroom for missed assignments or come see me at the time and location I have posted in the classroom and on my website. A note to parents: As your child’s Health Teacher and as a parent myself, I try to encourage kids to take personal responsibility for questions, material from missed classes, forgotten/missed work assignments, and poor grades. I do, of course, want to hear from parents, we are part of a community….but also (when possible and appropriate) please have your child approach/email me directly with questions or concerns regarding class.
