Class Information

Sixth grade art students strengthen their art skills, learn new art vocabulary and express themselves through the use of different art media. Following the North Haven Middle School Art Curriculum, sixth grades students will focus of the following units: Elements of Art and Principles of Design, Symbols of the Sea, and Asian Art.

 

2D Art and Design students will explore two dimensional art processes including drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage.  Students will build upon common vocabulary and foundation skills and refine ideas with student input to personalize projects.

3D Art and Design students will experience working with a wide variety of 3D materials such as cardboard, repurposed objects, and clay.  Students will create original sculpture, both individually and in groups.  Students will learn sculptural vocabulary and techniques.  References for ideas will be drawn from multiple sources including images from art history and contemporary art.  

Digital Art and Mixed Media students combine a variety of art media that will allow them to explore and refine use of varied materials and processes such as printmaking, collage, assemblage, Adobe Photoshop and other digital media.

 

All classes

All students are expected to bring a pencil to class every day. Students should bring Chromebooks to art class to complete assignments and evaluations.

 

After School

Students who are behind on work are asked to complete work at home or after school by appointment. If students do stay after,  parents should be waiting for student by the main office entrance for pick up by 3pm.
